There’s a unique pain an Actor feels when sitting in a theatre, watching another show, with actors who are touring and seemingly living their dreams. The pain could be called jealousy, rage, envy, annoyance. Whatever it’s called, it doesn’t feel good and it makes the Actor think of several options.

1. Hate the annoying people singing and dancing up on the stage and hope they fall into the Orchestra Pit.

2. Enjoy the show for what it is and try not to think of how you could have done that role 10x better.

3. Jump up on the stage and show them how good you really are.

All not good options.

The best option, although not the easiest, is to enjoy the show and the performances. Be happy for the actors doing their things and applaud when it’s appropriate. Then go work your butt off and work some more until you are the one up on the stage being given the evil eye.

“Remember: there are no small parts, only small actors.”

Constantin Stanislavski
